Proposition 8 in California has sparked protests across the country. Homosexual marriage will no longer be recognized in that state and that decision has been sparked the ire of homosexuals and gay rights activists across the country. Many blame the Church for the results. Yet, many churches are espousing a totally different view. Some churches say they are ashamed and saddened by the passing of Proposition 8. Today Theophilux is featuring a different kind of article. As Christians we are called to work out our salvation. For me, this means not only discussing theological constructs to understand God and therefore come into a more intimate relationship with him, but it also means to love one another and pray for one another. With that being said I am asking you to pray for the Gleason family (Angie, Bob & daughters Katie & Rachael). Their story came to me through my church's prayer chain and it broke my heart. Maybe its because I’m a new mom, and know the joy that a child brings. Maybe it’s because God has put a special place in my heart for 2 year olds (I’ve worked with children for 8 years), but whatever the reason my heart is breaking for this family. The debate of faith verses works has been around since the time of Paul. Many Christians today wrestle with understanding the relationship between God’s Law and the Gospel. For example, the Law demands obedience to God’s moral will whereas God’s saving grace offers forgiveness of sins because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. With that being said I think that most of us understand that it is not the law verses the gospel. Yet it is important to understand the relationship between the two constructs especially since the way we view this relationship affects the way we read the Bible, live our lives, and minister to other people.
